
Professional Summary
Laura B. Liu is an Associate Professor and the English as a New Language Program Coordinator in the Division of Education at IU Columbus. Laura’s research focuses on glocalization, diversity sustaining teaching practices, and international professional development. Previously, Laura was an Assistant Professor at Beijing Normal University’s Center for Teacher Education Research where she earned her postdoctoral degree on teacher education faculty international professional development. Laura completed her doctorate in multicultural teacher education at The George Washington University and her M.Ed. and B.A. at Stanford University. As a high school English Language Arts teacher, Laura earned her National Board Teaching Certification in secondary ELA instruction. Her recent publications include the co-edited text, Funds of Knowledge in Teacher Education: Sustaining Local Diversity Amidst Global Standards (2025), and anthology of 15 bilingual parent stories, Home: Multilingual Funds of Knowledge Stories (2024), including her own family's story, Turtle's Treasure. In her teacher preparation courses, Laura supports teacher candidates in making funds of knowledge connections in agricultural science instruction, dialogues with multilingual parents, and international virtual learning exchanges.
