IU Columbus's special education license addition is nationally recognized by the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), and our English as a new language license additionis is recognized by the Indiana State Department of Education (INDoE).
Candidates completing the teacher education program requirements in elementary education at IU Columbus will satisfy licensure requirements for the state of Indiana. Additionally, Indiana is a member of the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC) Interstate Agreement. This agreement allows educators who complete an approved teacher education program and/or hold a license in one state/jurisdiction to earn a certificate or license in another state/jurisdiction. Some states may impose certain special requirements, which must be met within a reasonable amount of time, to license an educator who was trained/licensed out of state.

The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) has annual accountability measures which are used to provide information to the public on both program outcomes and program impact. Indiana Department of Education Teacher Effectiveness Data
HEA 1002 (2025) amended IC 20-28-11.5-9, removing the requirement that school corporations and charter schools provide the results of staff performance evaluations to the INDoE. In addition, it removed the requirement of INDoE to report the results of staff performance evaluations to teacher preparation programs. As a result, no educator evaluation data will be collected following the 2023-24academic year below.

Completers Who Were Teaching in Indiana During a Given Academic Year
The Indiana Department of Education no longer releases data on teacher employment.
Out of 12 program completers during the 2023-2024 academic year, 10 (83%) were teaching in Indiana during the 2024-2025 academic year.
Out of 20 program completers during May-August 2021, 18 (90%) were teaching in Indiana or pursuing additional post-graduate education during the 2021-2022 school year.
Out of 30 program completers during the 2019-2020 academic year, 23 (77%) were teaching in Indiana during the 2020-2021 school year.
Out of 26 program completers during the 2018-2019 academic year, 28 (73%) were teaching in Indiana during the 2019-2020 school year.
Out of 31 program completers during the 2017-2018 academic year, 22 (71%) were teaching in Indiana during the 2018-2019 school year.
