We're here to help you succeed. Through coaching, peer mentorship and community‑focused programs, IU Columbus offers support in many forms, including resources specifically for first‑generation students and 21st Century Scholars.
Helping you succeed at IU Columbus
Coaching Conversations
All students are invited and encouraged to take advantage of longer and more in-depth conversations with a success coach. These meetings can focus on improving study habits, exploring or reconsidering degree options, setting goals or discussing other concerns.
First Generation College Student Support
We strive to ensure that first‑generation college students have the tools they need to navigate the world of higher education. First‑generation students are encouraged to participate in opportunities such as the Alpha Alpha Alpha First‑Generation Honor Society and the Groups Scholars Program.
Indiana University Columbus is also a proud participant in FirstGen Forward, a national initiative that recognizes institutions committed to supporting first‑generation success.
21st Century Scholar Support
As a 21st Century Scholar, you have access to a dedicated support system designed to help you stay on track and make the most of your scholarship. Our services include:
- Regular in‑person meetings with a success coach
- Student programming that supports academic and personal growth
- Guidance on scholarship requirements and proper scholarship use
- Connection with the Indiana Commission for Higher Education
Peer Mentor Program
Student mentors are trained to support all incoming first‑year students in our First‑Year Seminars. Meeting with your mentor is part of the course, and many find it helpful to talk with someone who’s been in their shoes.
